Cone 6 is...

The number of the pyrometric cone used to gauge kiln temperature during firing. The cones are positioned in a kiln with the wares to be fired and provide a visual indication of when the wares have reached proper temperature. The temperature equivalent of Cone 6 is roughly 2100 degrees Fahrenheit, at which point glazes go into flux and finish the pieces.
